Beaver Creek comes alive at night – and every evening throughout the season thanks to the new Family Nights program. If it’s not a torchlight skiing parade, it could be a storytelling session around the village fire pits.
You can’t really call them pits since the setting is incredible and they have very cushy outdoor furniture that looks like living room furniture. Or maybe you love the idea of tubing on the lower slopes in front of McCoy’s. You can find an easy place to relax and watch the family skate our rink which is open year around. Starting at 6 in the afternoon in summer you will see people skating in shorts and shirt sleeves. There are plenty of comical scenes when parents start chasing their children on the rink.
Beaver Creek now has made their slopes even more kid-friendly by adding the Buckaroo Express – a child sized eight person gondola. Now the kids have something to look forward to while you’re over in Larkspur bowl riding some bumps.
Here you will find the #1 children’s ski school in the nation. Beaver Creek boasts that their primary goal in their ski school programs is to develop a love of the mountains, the wonderful snow and skiing. The phenomenal beginner runs at the top of the mountain (versus at the bottom as you’ve seen at other resorts) inspire beginners (whether children or adult) to ski sooner and build a great deal of confidence.
The instructors here are all top of line professionals who know how handle all types of challenges that young skiers bring to the mountain. By the time they finish their classes you might have trouble getting the off the mountain. Only experience and quality of teaching can instill this sense of fun in skiing in your children.
Beaver Creek Mountain proper is a rainbow of green, blue and black runs. There’s even true double-black terrain found off the Grouse Mountain Express lift and, of course, on the Birds of Prey. It’s on the Birds of Prey where the World Cup downhill is run every November. Afterwards, the Birds of Prey runs are groomed a few times weekly – and they are truly a don’t miss on those days.
Beaver Creek has over 1800 skiable acres and serves a wide audience with anything from groomed cruisers to the new, expert-only Stone Creek Chutes. Locals love the chutes and some even claim it the ‘best inside-the-gate terrain in the Vail Valley’. There are also some great secret stashes of tree skiing and the Royal Elk Glades just to the right off the top of Grouse Mountain.
With the upgrading to high speed quads on Larkspur, which was one of the coldest lifts the ski terrain just gets easier and more fun to get to. After the start from either Strawberry Park or Centennial at the bottom skiers drift off to the other parts of the mountain so there is very little wait time on any lift.
