For some people, it only takes one visit to the Vail, Colorado ski resort.  They immediately know that Vail is the place for their second home or some Vail vacation real estate.  Looking down the valley as you drive in from Denver, Vail real estate is divided into five main neighborhoods:  East Vail, Vail Village, Lionshead, Cascade Village, and West Vail.

East Vail is the first community after the Vail Pass along Interstate 70.  Surrounded by wilderness, these Vail CO homes are easily accessible to a plethora of recreational options.  In addition, the beautiful Vail Golf Course is in East Vail.

About five miles further into the valley, Vail Village is the centerpiece of the ski resort.  The atmosphere of the European Alps pervades the charming, pedestrian-friendly village that serves one of the top ski mountains in the world.  A classic cultural influence coupled with lazy cobblestone streets is the perfect step outside for some of the most elegant residences in the area.  An array of ski-in/ski-out luxury properties and others within steps of the lifts and ski services are right in the center of the action.  This is the neighborhood for families and people who like to mingle in the resorts boutiques, shops, galleries, fine and casual dining establishments, spas, lodges, and nightclubs.

West of Vail Village, the extremely popular Lionshead, Vail’s billion-dollar New Dawn renewal project, is welcoming some of the most exclusive real estate in the resort:  Arrabelle at Vail Square, the Ritz Carlton Residences, and Four Seasons to name a few.  With the Eagle Bahn Gondola sweeping skiers, hikers, and bikers up the mountain and excellent restaurants wining and dining them when they return, Lionshead will soon be on a par with Vail Village for amenities.

Cascade Village, a mile west of Lionshead, also features a convenient chairlift and access to Vail Mountain.  Sought-after luxury real estate including the Vail Cascade Hotel and Spa add to the neighborhood appeal.  With the relaxation of gold-medal trout fishing in Gore Creek, this neighborhood is a bit more secluded.

The fifth Vail neighborhood is West Vail, where residents and visitors enjoy a bit more affordable and casual lifestyle.  Lodging, shops, restaurants, and grocery stores are convenient to this community.

All year round, the free shuttle transports people from all of the neighborhoods and ski areas—a reflection of the community’s love of the pristine environment and the desire to conserve energy.  Vail Mountain has a maximum elevation of 11,570 feet.  Vail has three faces:  the front side, the back bowls and Blue Sky Basin. The seven back bowls are Sun Down Bowl, Sun Up Bowl, Teacup Bowl, China Bowl, Siberia Bowl, Inner Mongolia Bowl, and Outer Mongolia Bowl.

The resort was founded by Pete Seibert and Earl Eaton in 1962, between the town of Eagle and theVail Pass.  Seibert joined the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division during World War II, which trained at Camp Hale, just southeast of Vail and discovered the wonderful bowls during backcountry excursions.
