Guest of Vail Colorado who never wants to leave

There are good customers, there are repeat customers and then there is Paul Esserman.  Mr. E as he is affectionately known is somewhat of an icon in Vail Colorado and especially at the Vail Cascade Resort.   When the resort first opened 25 years ago as the Westin,  Mr. Esserman was one of its first guests.  He has been visiting ever since.  He rents a room for the entire ski season, which begins right around Thanksgiving and ends towards the end of April.  

Mr. E, who is a stockbroker in Denver by trade, makes himself at home in the Vail Cascade Spa, bringing with him pictures, including one of himself with another Vail icon, Pepi Gramshammer, the owner of Pepi’s in Vail Village, and other decorations to make his room cozy.  He funded the library that is in the Cascade Resort, dedicating it to his parents and contributing a vast amount of books from his own collection.

The 65 year old Esserman is avid skier and gets around 70 days on the mountain each year.  Even when the ski season is over Esserman will return to his beloved Cascade Resort for shorter stays during the summer.  He is an extremely active philanthropist, supporting everything Vail Valley including the Vail Valley foundation, the Vail Valley Medical Center and the Vail Valley music festival.

People often ask Mr. E why after all this time he doesn’t just purchase a condominium or home in Vail.  Because he wants to feel like he is on vacation all the time and staying in a hotel feels like a true vacation to him.  In the 25 years since the opening of the Westin, Vail has seen tremendous growth in the hotel and condominium industry.  There are several hotels that are just steps from the ski slopes and the main village yet Mr. E will not consider leaving the Vail Cascade Resort for another property. 

Mr. Esserman has found his true family in the Cascade Resort and Spa. While never married and has not children, he is welcome in the hearts of all who meet him and all that are lucky to be touched by meeting him.
