Annual Teva Mountain Games and Vail CO Vacation Home
By All Vail Listings
In June, Vail, Colorado is home to the Teva Mountain Games, the largest outdoor adventure event in the United States. Kayakers, rafters, climbers, runners, roadies, anglers, cross-country riders, and freeriders gather every year for a weekend of great competition. The Teva Mountain Games feature national TV exposure, thousands of cheering fans, exposure for gear companies, and thousands of dollars of cash prizes. Just steps from your vacation real estate in Vail, Colorado’s Arrabelle at Vail Square and a few miles from Bachelor Gulch and Beaver Creek real estate, the Teva Mountain Games join the legacy of world-class competitions in the Vail Valley.
Cycling. The innovative freeride competitions and the cross-country course provide exciting rides for two-wheelers of all abilities. For cycling along, there is $30,000 in prizes on the table. Competitors choose exciting events like SoBe® X-Country, SoBe® Freeride, SoBe® Slopestyle, Road Bike Hill Climb, Short Course Criterium, and Tricycle.
Running. Professionals run along with other runners for the 10K Championship Trail Run, the 5K Mud Fun Run as they loop around Vail Mountain.
Kayaking. Competitors test the raging waters of the Vail Valley. Weekend warriors and seasoned pros also compete in kayaking events such as Dagger® Steep Creek Championship, Kayak Pro Freestyle, 8 Ball Kayak Sprint, and Down River Sprint.
Ultimate Multisport. The Ultimate Mountain Challenge tests athletic skill, power, and endurance in four separate races over two days in Vail Village.
Rafting. The Raft "shredder" showdown, similar to the kayak paddlecross, features male and female raft teams with 4 to 6 members. They qualify down the Class IV Dowd Chute section of the Eagle River and advance to the paddlecross rounds where the rafts squeeze through the Chute three at a time until a winner is determined.
Climbing. Teva Mountain Games’ massive mushroom-shaped wall invites competitions like World Cup of Climbing, Citizen-Bouldering Competition, Speed-Bouldering Competition, and Youth-Bouldering Competition. For the first time on U.S. soil in 20 years, the World Cup of Climbing will also be hosted during the Teva Games in 2008. The climbing events are simply fantastic!
One-Fly. Both professional and amateur anglers compete in the unique One-Fly Competition, which combines an accuracy-and-distance test with a real world, on-river fishing challenge. Gore Creek is a year-round, gold-medal fishing resource for very large Rocky Mountain trout.
Casting. The One-Fly Competition will start with a casting challenge. Each angler will attempt casts at targets for accuracy and distance and then move to the water to see if they can handle the pressures of thousands of eyes peering across at them as the throw casts at would-be fish holding spots.
Doggie Diving. In 2008, the Teva Mountain Games will include professional Diving Dogs who leap distances of almost 30 feet into a unique diving pool. The entire family will cheer on these endearing four-legged athletes.
After the competition at the Teva Mountain Games, live music and barbeque await at the base of Golden Peak.
