Edwards Colorado, which is about 15 minutes west of Vail Colorado, has even been voted one of the best small towns to live in, in America. This week, a new project called the West End project went on sale and there employee housing residence had people sleeping in the door way the night before to get a residence which were sold on a first come basis. The first phase of the 72 deed restricted, or affordable homes have been badly needed. There are also 113 market rate residences.
There will also be stores, restaurants and offices of which the majority will be locally owned. The community will be at the center of Edwards in what we call a downtown and which city people would call a block. You must live and work in Eagle County to apply. Prices for the homes will range from $180,000 for a 625 square foot studio to $460,000 for a 3 bedroom 1351 square foot home. These prices are roughly 30% lower than regular market price for homes.
The market rate condos will be sold in phases with price increases at each phase. On the West end of the development is found a number of current local favorite watering holes and restaurants like the Gas House, Fiestas, Marko’s pizza and the new culinary treat Mathews which is getting rave reviews by all who eat there. The project is just across the street from the River Walk market center, which has the movie theater, grocery store great small shops and some really diverse eateries.
This could be the new hot spot if they bring in more boutique shops and new restaurants. Edwards is already considered by locals to be the best place to shop in a small town atmosphere and get quality merchandise and food. The vacation visitor also come down here once they have visited the valley more than once and discovered the quiet conclave.
With plans going forward to make a recreation center on the county grounds this will continue to be a hub of activity. The recently preserved open space that the new West End project over looks is another of the biggest assets Edwards has.
